Legislators adopted the draft amid massive protests over the surge in rape of women and children and demands to ensure justice for victims of sexual violence. The Pakistani government must now establish special courts across the country to speed up sexual assault cases to four months.
Under the new law, those convicted of gang rape will be sentenced to death or life imprisonment. CNN also reports that less than 3 percent of cases of sexual assault or rape result in convictions in Pakistan, according to War Against Rape, a non-profit organization.
In September, the Russian State Duma announced the preparation of a law on the chemical castration of pedophiles. The bill is being finalized. According to Anatoly Vyborny, a member of the State Duma Committee on Security and Anti-Corruption, “it is logical and correct” to regard as a disease the sexual attraction of people convicted of crimes like the rape and murder of two 10-year-old schoolgirls in Kiselevsk.
