Chairman of the Board of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Borisov predicted double-digit growth in food prices in 2022 believes Alexander Borisov, Chairman of the Council of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) for the development of the consumer market. He gave such an assessment in a commentary to the Sekret Firmy newspaper.
“This is connected, on the one hand, with the global rise in prices, global inflation. On the other hand, due to the fact that practically at all stages of product development, food or non-food, we use a large number of foreign ingredients and production facilities, “Borisov said. He recalled that the cost of some products, for example, sugar, rice, tea, coffee, fish, grain, depends on the price on the exchange. “And nothing can be done here,” Borisov said. To stop the rise in prices next year, in particular, the competition of retail chains with each other, he believes.
Another interlocutor of the publication, the head of Rusprodsoyuz Dmitry Vostrikov, is not so categorical. In his opinion, it is difficult to predict the dynamics of food prices for winter and spring, since the price depends on too many factors, including gross harvests of crops, exchange indicators, tariffs, non-tax payments, exchange rates, and the size of the key rate. The expert did not see any sharp upward trends in prices for pasta, cereals and bakery products.
On November 18, the chairman of the Central Bank Elvira Nabiullina said that food inflation in Russia had reached double-digit levels. She attributed the accelerated growth in food prices to a not very good harvest, an increase in global prices and a rise in the cost of labor in agriculture due to the shortage of migrants.
