Honored Doctor of Russia dispels five myths related to vaccination against COVID-19

Honored Doctor Round: the vaccine has been studied, does not affect DNA and reproductive function

Honored Doctor of Russia, member of the Federation Council Committee on Social Policy Vladimir Krugly dispelled five myths related to vaccination against COVID-19. Among them are a little knowledge of the vaccine and side effects, the effect of the drug on human DNA and reproductive function, writes Parliamentary Gazette.

The first of them is associated with the fact that the vaccine is poorly understood. Krugly said that, for example, Sputnik V was created on the platform of the human adenovirus vector, which has been used for a long time. Therefore, we can say with confidence that the drug for the coronavirus is tested and safe.

“The vector is an adenovirus, devoid of a reproduction gene, that is, it poses no threat to the body. It is used as a courier – a gene is inserted into it that encodes the S-protein of the coronavirus, ”the doctor said.

Another myth is associated with the opinion that even with a vaccine, a person can get seriously ill. The honored doctor noted that this is not true. Vaccination does not guarantee that a person will not get infected, but, according to world statistics, vaccinated people get sick much less often. No more than 7-10 percent get sick with COVID-19 after vaccination, and less than one percent dies, summed up Krugly.

The doctor called the opinion that the vaccine genetically modifies a person was “complete nonsense.” The principle of action of vaccines was discovered more than 200 years ago and all epidemics won thanks to vaccinations, the doctor stated.

“In response to the introduction of a foreign protein antigen, the body produces strictly specific antibodies that destroy this particular antigen. Vaccines have no effect on DNA, ”said Krugly.

The fourth myth is that vaccines cause allergies and side effects. The doctor noted that allergies are possible, but this is prescribed in the contraindications to the drug. As for side effects, they are extremely rare. The Sputnik V vaccine has the highest safety, as shown by numerous studies.

It has also been proven that the coronavirus vaccine does not affect reproductive function in men and women. However, the coronavirus itself is capable of causing infertility. So the honored doctor dispelled the myth that vaccination can lead to problems of conceiving a child.

Earlier, virologist Yevgeny Timakov dispelled the myth about the possibility of transmission of the mild course of COVID-19 from person to person. The Russian doctor said that the severity of the patient's disease depends on many factors. Among them are innate immunity, the dose of the virus received during infection and the genetic predisposition of a person.
