Telegram founder Durov: developers fix problems related to advertising
Telegram founder Pavel Durov responded to criticism of advertising in the messenger. In his Telegram channel, he stated that the application developers are already fixing problems related to the introduction of the new feature.
“We are fixing problems with ads that have already been launched. Some administrators of major Telegram channels are already posting ads in the form of regular messages. We hope that sponsored posts will provide a more convenient and less chaotic way to promote channels and bots, “- said the founder of the messenger.
He clarified that while advertising in the messenger is working in test mode. Once advertisements are fully operational, Durov said, this will allow Telegram to cover basic costs as well as share advertising revenues with the administrators of the channels that broadcast sponsored messages. He also noted that this approach to the distribution of advertising revenue would be fair.
In addition, the founder of the messenger emphasized that advertising messages will appear only in channels – they will not be in personal correspondence.
< p> Durov also drew attention to the fact that Telegram, unlike WhatsApp, does not disseminate information about its users. “WhatsApp is already sharing user data with advertisers, even though they don't run ads themselves. However, in Telegram, advertisers will never receive your personal data, – said the founder of the messenger. “Online advertising should no longer be synonymous with violating user privacy.”
Advertisements appeared on Telegram in early November. Messages tagged as Sponsored began to appear in channels with over a thousand subscribers.
