The doctors said that the ex-president of Georgia Saakashvili could fall into a coma in the prison hospital
Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili, said that there is a threat that he will fall into a coma. This is reported by the Novosti-Georgia portal.
The doctors stated that the prison hospital does not meet the conditions necessary for the treatment of Saakashvili, who has been on a hunger strike for 48 days.
The doctors say that the politician is in critical condition. He was diagnosed with Wernicke's encephalopathy, progressive hypokalemia, anemia, thalassemia and the likelihood of gastric bleeding. Doctors believe that in the near future all this may end in status epilepticus or coma. If the hunger strike ends, there is a high likelihood of developing life-threatening metabolic disorders.
Mikhail Saakashvili was arrested on October 1 after returning to Georgia after eight years of emigration to take part in the protests. Earlier, he was sentenced in absentia to six years in prison. The politician himself believes that his criminal prosecution is political in nature.
