President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky held telephone talks with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan. This was reported by the press service of the Ukrainian leader's office.

During the conversation, Zelensky agreed to meet with Erdogan at a meeting of the High-Level Strategic Council, which will be held in February 2022 in Kiev. It was noted that the important event will be preceded by the holding in December of the second meeting of the Ukrainian-Turkish “quadriga” with the participation of the foreign and defense ministers of both countries.

The heads of the two states also announced their willingness to complete the preparation of an Agreement on a free trade zone in the near future. In addition, the parties discussed other issues on the bilateral agenda, in particular – interaction in the energy sector, diversification of energy supplies and the implementation of a project to build housing for representatives of the Crimean Tatar people.

The presidents also paid attention to the topic of cooperation in the defense sector and its positive impact on the armed forces of the two countries. In addition, Zelensky told Erdogan about the start of serial production of the An-178 transport aircraft and invited Turkey to “join the circle of customers” of the aircraft.

Earlier, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba talked about the negotiations between the Ukrainian and Turkish presidents, which took place during the 76th session of the UN General Assembly in the United States. According to him, the heads of the two republics “synchronized watches” on the most important areas of interaction, and Zelensky asked Erdogan to put in a word to Russian President Vladimir Putin for 450 Ukrainian prisoners of war.
