Deputy Svishchev called the fight over the Russian flag a provocation during the match of Ukraine
Member of the State Duma Committee on Physical Culture, Sports, Tourism and Youth Affairs Dmitry Svishchev commented on the fight in the stands during the 2022 World Cup qualifying match between the national teams of Ukraine and Bosnia and Herzegovina. His words are quoted by Sport24.
The MP called the incident a poorly organized provocation, noting that other states and their flags should not be insulted. “Do not dig a hole for another – you will fall into it yourself. We do not turn over their flag, although it looks like the Swedish one with them – no one here will dare to do so, “he stressed.
Earlier on November 17, it became known that during the selection match for the World Cup, Ukrainian fans turned over the Russian flag with the coat of arms. The Bosnians thought they were waving the Serbian flag in front of them, and took this as a provocation. A fight broke out between the fans because of the tricolor. The situation required police intervention.
The match between the teams took place in the Bosnian city of Zenica and ended in a 2-0 victory for the guests. Ukrainians will continue to fight for a ticket to the World Cup in the playoffs. They finished the qualifying tournament in second place in their group, with France first.
