Ministry of Economic Development: inflation in Russia accelerated to 8.1 percent in annual terms

Inflation in Russia accelerated to 8.1 percent by November 15 percent in annual terms. The Ministry of Economic Development gave such an assessment to the rate of growth of prices in the review “On the current price situation.”

In the previous report, it was reported that as of November 8, inflation slowed down to 8.07 percent in annual terms. According to Rosstat, the weekly rise in prices from November 9 to 15 accelerated to 0.18 percent against 0.9 percent a week earlier. Since the beginning of the year, inflation has made 6.81 percent.

“The rate of growth in food prices continued to decline (0.19 percent after 0.29 percent and 0.44 percent in the previous two weeks) amid renewed deflation fruit and vegetable products (-0.35 percent after an increase of 0.50 percent), for food products, except for vegetables and fruits, the rate of price growth did not change (0.26 percent, as in the previous week), ”the Ministry of Economic Development said in a document./p>

The ministry also noted a decrease in prices for tourism services by 0.02 percent. In the non-food sector, inflation, on the contrary, accelerated to 0.31 percent. Gasoline prices rose 0.26 percent. The Ministry of Economic Development also reported on the rise in prices on world markets: food inflation in the week from November 9 to 15 amounted to 2.2 percent. Fertilizers required for agriculture have also risen in price. On world markets, prices of nitrogen and mixed fertilizers increased by 2.8 and 2.4 percent over the past week.

Earlier in mid-October, the Ministry of Economic Development raised the inflation forecast for 2021 to 7.4 percent against the previously assumed 5 , 8 percent. The central bank expects inflation at 7.4-7.9 percent, with a target of four percent. To contain the rise in prices, the regulator on October 22 sharply raised the key rate to 7.5 percent. The Central Bank also does not exclude a further increase in the key rate.
