Gynecologist Velikzhanina: a pregnant woman with coronavirus cannot transmit the virus to her fetus coronavirus in pregnant women. Her words are reported by RIA Novosti.
As Velikzhanina explained, a sick pregnant woman cannot transmit the virus to her fetus. But at the same time, there is a high probability that the child can become infected after birth, so he is forced to be isolated from the sick mother. “Most often, these newborns have various health disorders, they are dealt with by neonatologists and are further monitored by pediatricians,” she added.
The gynecologist noted that it is unvaccinated pregnant women who are most seriously ill. According to her, in such cases, doctors are forced to stimulate childbirth ahead of schedule in order to save the mother's life. “Health problems that arise in newborns are associated with prematurity, not disease,” Velikzhanina concluded.
Earlier, Roman Shmakov, the chief freelance specialist of the Russian Ministry of Health on obstetrics, said that COVID-19 in a pregnant woman can provoke a delay in fetal development, as well as increase the likelihood of termination of pregnancy. Shmakov urged pregnant and lactating women to be vaccinated. According to him, vaccination after 22 weeks does not affect the course of pregnancy.
