The bones of dozens of woolly mammoths were found in the Kargatsky district of the Novosibirsk region
Archaeologists have found the bones of dozens of woolly mammoths in the Novosibirsk region. The RAS scientist Vasily Zenin announced this in a video published on the New Archeology YouTube channel.
Excavations were carried out near the archeological and paleontological monument Wolf's Mane in the Kargatsky region. This place is known as the largest mammoth habitat. “To date, several dozen individuals of mammoths and hundreds of bones of this species have been identified at this location,” Zenin explained. According to him, archaeologists began working in the Volcha Griva area in the 1950s.
The scientist added that they also managed to find fragments of silicon, microquartzite, rock crystal and 70 objects made of stone. The jaw of a wolf was also found in the soil layers.
As Vasily Zenin explained, experts studied three levels of the location of paleo-lithic finds. The youngest artifacts are located closer to the surface of the earth, and their age is approximately 11 thousand years. At the lowest level of the finds, which is located in the same place as the coastal strip of the ancient lake, there are objects 18 thousand years old.
