The South Korean government has presented a plan to phase out fuel that is harmful to the planet … The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy has presented a plan to phase out fossil fuels that are harmful to the planet, reports the South Korean newspaper The Korean Herald.
Authorities plan to transfer more than half of coal-fired power plants to 20 percent ammonia by 2030. and gas enterprises by 2035 – for methane with a 30% admixture of hydrogen. In the future, the share of hydrogen and ammonia in fuel is going to increase – for this, the government will launch research to develop new turbines capable of withstanding such mixtures.
The ministry is going to establish a supply chain for ammonia and build storage facilities in 2022. Officials believe that the introduction of cleaner fuels will help Korea achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 – fully offsetting greenhouse gas emissions.
The benefits of hydrogen in the fight against global warming were noted in the United States as well. The American company Plug Power has decided to build a giant plant for the production of environmentally friendly fuels. The enterprise will be able to supply 30 tons of hydrogen daily, which is going to be used to reduce the carbon footprint of transport.
