Russian MP goes on hunger strike due to eviction of precinct officers from apartments

Chelyabinsk deputy Khaziev decided to go on hunger strike in order to ensure the provision of housing for policemen the city administration decided to evict from the service apartments. He announced this in his Telegram channel.

Khaziev opposed the deprivation of housing by the police and joined the precinct Yana Kirillova, who was the first to decide not to eat until the housing conflict with the city administration was resolved.

“Starting today, November 17, I am going on a hunger strike as a sign of support and respect for your position. I will starve just like you, until the central office of the Investigative Committee, the FSB, sends a group of investigators for a conscientious, objective investigation into your, precinct, apartments, ”the deputy wrote on his Telegram channel. In addition, he announced his readiness to participate in the picket and live in a tent in order to secure housing for police officers.

The Chelyabinsk district police officers have been suing the city administration since the summer of 2021. Municipal authorities are trying to evict police officers from service apartments, which they had the right to privatize after ten years of service in the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The mayor's office claims that precinct police have no rights to real estate, and police officers accuse the municipality of misappropriating public housing … Three hearings were held in the case – at two of them the court sided with the police. At first, the Investigative Committee refused to open a criminal case on this fact, but later promised to investigate the situation and try to resolve the conflict peacefully.
