Lukashenko's press service on the conversation with Merkel: the refugee problem will be brought to the EU level

Details a telephone conversation with the interim German Chancellor Angela Merkel, BelTA informs.

Minsk claims that the parties discussed the migration crisis and “came to a certain understanding of how to act and move on in resolving existing issues.”

Lukashenko and Merkel agreed that the problem as a whole is brought up to the level of Belarus and the European Union. Officials will be appointed from both sides who will immediately begin negotiations. “In the same context, the wish of refugees to go to Germany will be resolved,” the press service added.

In addition, as the administration of the Belarusian leader said, Merkel conveyed to Lukashenko the request of the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen to participate in the process of international organizations dealing with refugee and migrant issues. Lukashenko and Merkel agreed on further contacts.

The leaders of Belarus and Germany phoned for the first time on November 15, after which Lukashenko said that he had “made a proposal to resolve the situation,” but did not give details.

< p> Meanwhile, Estonian Foreign Minister Eva-Maria Liimets said that Lukashenko, in exchange for ending the migration crisis, demanded that EU leaders recognize his legitimacy as president and lift sanctions on Belarus.
