Psychologist Tonkova-Kuznetsova: 400 milligrams of caffeine a day is safe for health At the Institute of Psychoanalysis Olga Tonkova-Kuznetsova told the Russians how they can independently diagnose their addiction to coffee and get rid of it. Her words on Tuesday, November 16, are quoted by Izvestia.
Citing data from the American Medical Association for Scientific Affairs, the expert noted that 400 milligrams of caffeine per day is a moderate dose and is safe for health. Tonkova-Kuznetsova clarified that so much is contained in about two cups of espresso and 1.5 liters of tea, or in four cups of espresso and up to 800 milliliters of tea.
It is worth thinking about giving up coffee if a person consumes more than the norm and feels that he can no longer do without it. Negative symptoms indicative of caffeine addiction, the specialist also called worsening sleep quality, high blood pressure, heart palpitations, anxiety and sudden mood swings.
“To understand if you have a coffee addiction, answer yourself to the following questions. Can you do without coffee? Are you experiencing withdrawal symptoms? How do they manifest themselves? ” – the psychologist emphasized.
To get rid of coffee addiction, a person needs to formulate his intention and begin to implement it, the doctor said. She also noted that the amount of caffeine should be reduced gradually. For example, first stop drinking drinks containing it for at least one day.
Learning to wake up decaffeinated is also very important. To do this, you should postpone the first cup until a later time, drink a glass of water in the morning and do a light warm-up.
Earlier, British nutritionist Frankie Phillips also called the optimal amount of caffeine per day 400 milligrams. In her opinion, regular moderate consumption of coffee reduces the risk of developing cardiovascular diseases and type 2 diabetes.
