Russian photographer captures Red Book predators playing hide and seek

In the Chelyabinsk region, rare gyrfalcons were photographed when they were playing hide and seek … He was able to photograph the predators when they were playing hide and seek, reports the South Ural State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company.

The published photographs show how birds sit on the ground, in straw and on a log. Due to the fact that the plumage is painted in light gray and beige-chestnut colors, it is difficult to notice the gyrfalcon: it easily merges with the landscape, the TV channel notes. In addition, the predator is very dexterous, which is why it hunts well and can fly a long distance quickly enough.

The shooting location remained unknown. At the same time, it is obvious that the birds were captured in the fall.

According to the TV channel, the gyrfalcon have been known to people for a long time, they were also actively used for falconry. Birds are considered the largest representatives of the falcon family. For example, their wingspan is about 1.5 meters, and their body weight is about 2-2.5 kilograms.

It is clarified that the gyrfalcon are rather “cruel hunters”, as they attack smaller birds and even on small mammals. At the same time, they themselves suffer from poachers who catch them for illegal sale. For this reason, gyrfalcons ended up in the Red Book of Russia.

Earlier it became known that in the Sosnovsky district of the Tambov region, local residents rescued a wounded peregrine falcon from death. According to the ornithological ring established for the bird on the territory of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug back in 2013, experts found out that the falcon had lived in the wild for eight years.

Meanwhile, in Tyukalinsk, located in the Omsk region, a Russian rescued a rare Red Book the bird who later became a TikTok star. He named the owl Serega. As a result, short videos with a bird of prey won over netizens.
