Russia assessed Germany's attitude towards Lukashenko

Political scientist Eremina: the West is to blame for the crisis with migrants, but demands a solution from Lukashenka Alexander Lukashenko. She stressed that the West is to blame for the situation with migrants at the border, but it requires the head of the Belarusian state to resolve the crisis, Izvestia reports.

Thus, the expert commented on the situation when the German government in an official statement did not call Lukashenko the President of Belarus, commenting on his talks with German Chancellor Angela Merkel. “Chancellor Angela Merkel had a conversation with Alexander Lukashenko today,” Cabinet spokesman Steffen Seibert wrote on Twitter.

Eremina believes that this is a consequence of the EU's attempt to ignore the crisis with migrants on the border with Poland for a long time. She pointed out that the hypertrophied attention to the problem arose due to the position of Warsaw, which began to strongly oppose the penetration of people into the country.

According to the political scientist, such behavior will not resolve the situation, you need to sit down at the negotiating table and jointly think about what can be done. “This problem requires mutual interaction, but for a long time – both in summer and autumn – it was not considered necessary to establish a dialogue with Lukashenka,” she added.

Eremina pointed out that blaming the Belarusian leader is “the last thing”, but the very fact of negotiations with him speaks of the ambiguity of Germany's position. The expert explained that the president was threatened with sanctions and accused, demanding to stop – but it is impossible to stop what he did not suit either locally or globally.

Earlier, White House spokesman Jen Psaki said that the United States is asking Russia to influence the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko because of the situation with migrants. She stressed that the United States continues to work closely with European partners and other allies to hold the regime of the Belarusian leader accountable for the “ongoing attack”.
