The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) calls on Poland to open access to migrants on the border with Belarus to provide humanitarian assistance. This is stated in the press release of the organization, received in “Lentu.ru”.

Andreas von Weissenberg, head of the IFRC's department for natural disasters, climate and crises in Europe, noted that the Belarusian Red Cross managed to gain access to the border areas from the Belarusian side and provide assistance to migrants who are there. According to him, it is necessary that access to migrants also be provided from the other – the Polish – side of the border.

“Access to humanitarian aid and protection must go hand in hand. All migrants arriving at the EU borders should be able to apply for international protection and receive an individual assessment of their application in accordance with the UN Convention relating to the Status of Refugees and applicable EU legislation, ”von Weissenberg urged.

Migration crisis in the border of Belarus with Poland and Lithuania escalated in November. Crowds of migrants have gathered near the cordons of the republics, some of them periodically make an attempt to break through to the territory of the European Union.

The West claims that the migration crisis was organized by Minsk. Against this background, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell said that the fifth package of EU sanctions against Belarus will be adopted in the near future.
