Latvian Defense Minister: Riga is ready to involve NATO in resolving the migration crisis
border with Belarus. This was announced by the Minister of Defense of the Baltic Republic Artis Pabriks, writes Delfi.
He announced Riga's readiness to use the fourth article of the North Atlantic Treaty and request consultations with other NATO member states in the event that the territorial integrity and security of the republic turns out to be under threat.

Pabriks also noted that Latvia, Lithuania and Poland will submit an application together if one of the countries wants to request support from the North Atlantic Alliance. The minister added that while the authorities of the republics believe that they are able to cope with the situation on their own.
At the same time, the head of the Latvian military department noted that Riga, Vilnius and Warsaw would follow the further actions of Minsk and Moscow, and stressed, that Belarus “de facto” has already lost its independence.
The migration crisis on the border of Belarus with Poland and Lithuania escalated in November. Crowds of migrants gathered at the cordons of the republics, and some of them attempted to break through to the territory of the European Union (EU). Western countries blamed Belarus for the current situation and threatened Minsk with new sanctions.
