Izvestia: The Ministry of Agriculture offered the government to fix prices for mineral fertilizers
The Ministry of Agriculture of Russia wanted to stop the rise in prices for mineral fertilizers. With a corresponding request in a letter, the department addressed the government of the country on November 1, Izvestia writes.
The Ministry of Agriculture proposed to fix prices for mineral fertilizers – this will become a long-term measure to regulate the market. The letter from the department to the government emphasizes that since the end of 2020, food prices have risen in Russia and the world.
According to information from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), in September 2021, food prices exceeded the same level of last year by 32.8 percent. In Russia, food inflation for the year in September reached 9.2 percent, and agricultural production increased in value by 15-25 percent. At the same time, the price of mineral fertilizers for the year soared by 125 percent.
Prices for mineral fertilizers in the domestic market are increasing from the world ones. The shortage of this product will reduce the yield, the department suggested, and called for the development of a special regulatory act. The document should fix the indicator of the availability of fertilizers on the market with the calculation of the corresponding index, which is formed depending on the situation in the food and mineral fertilizers markets. If the indicator shows a value below a certain level, then the value of the goods will be fixed for sale.
Earlier it was reported that Russia limited the export of nitrogen fertilizers until May 31, 2022. Manufacturers must distribute the quota among themselves by November 25.
