Economist spoke about new opportunities for Russia to fill Nord Stream 2

Economist Korenev: the new subsidiary will allow filling Nord Stream 2 with large volumes

Germany, Nord Stream 2 will formally have an alternative supplier, which will enable Russia to fill the pipeline with large volumes of gas, and not 50 percent, as previously required. Aleksey Korenev, an economist and analyst at FG Finam, told Lente.ru about this.

Nord Stream 2 AG decided to create a subsidiary in Germany for the German part of the pipe. It is expected that the certification process for Nord Stream 2 will be completed after its creation. According to Korenev, this option is equally beneficial for both Russia and Germany.

“This means only one thing: Germany is interested in Russian gas. Incidentally, it is the only one that does not support the exchange pricing system. So, if it creates its own subsidiary, it will allow us to fill Nord Stream-2 not by 50 percent, but much more, that is, Russia will get the theoretical opportunity to pump normal volumes of gas, ”the economist explained. >

Korenev emphasized that in this way Germany guarantees for itself gas supplies and is likely to conclude long-term contracts at fixed prices.

Earlier, in October, the German Ministry of Energy issued its opinion on Nord Stream-2. The agency acknowledged that the operation of the pipeline does not threaten the energy security of Europe.
