Analyst Parfentiev: passport data leaks if companies do not delete them in time

The analyst explained that personal data includes a variety of information about a person, but fraudsters are most interested in data that opens access to finance. To obtain information about the bank accounts of citizens, attackers use social engineering methods. Parfentiev named companies that do not delete information on time, those responsible for the leakage of passport data.
“In most cases, personal data leaks occur due to the fact that they continue to be stored after the purpose of their collection and processing has been achieved … That is, the company no longer needs to store personal data, but they continue to store it, which attracts the attention of cybercriminals, ”the specialist explained.
Parfentiev added that passport data is in demand among fraudsters. To protect citizens' information from leakage, it is necessary to change the rules for providing services.
“Now a citizen is a hostage of the take it or leave it situation, that is, either a person provides data to companies, or cannot receive a service. In this regard, some change in the state regulation of the provision of personal data is necessary. That is, theoretically, some actions should be performed without the requirement to provide personal data, “” the expert concluded.
