Boris Johnson announced the implications of Nord Stream 2 for European security
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that the the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline could have serious implications for the security of Europe. He announced this at a meeting with members of the British Cabinet of Ministers, writes Reuters.
Boris Johnson explained that the UK is opposed to the project. According to him, Russia will start supplying gas to Europe through a new pipeline bypassing Ukraine, which could have significant consequences for the entire European region. “He also reiterated his concern about the current situation on the border of Ukraine and stressed that the UK will continue to support the territorial integrity of Ukraine,” Johnson's spokesman said.
This means only one thing: Germany is interested in Russian gas. Incidentally, it is the only one that does not support the exchange pricing system. So if it creates its own subsidiary, it will allow us to fill Nord Stream-2 not by 50 percent, but much more, that is, Russia will get a theoretical opportunity to pump normal gas volumes.

The British Prime Minister also predicted that soon Europe will have to choose between Russian hydrocarbons and support for Kiev. “We hope that our friends will realize that the choice will soon be between whether to get addicted to Russian hydrocarbons that go through giant new pipelines, or to stand up for Ukraine and defend the cause of peace and stability,” the politician said./p>
In turn, the head of the Ukrainian company Naftogaz, Yuriy Vitrenko, said that if the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline is launched, Ukraine's annual losses could amount to about two billion dollars. He stressed that for this reason Kiev still hopes to block the Russian project, which, among other things, “threatens world security.”
