Armenia called on Russia to defend its territory under the 1997 treaty
Yerevan appealed to Moscow to protect the territorial integrity of Armenia in accordance with earlier the concluded bilateral agreement between the countries. This was reported on Tuesday, November 16, by TASS with reference to the Armenian Security Council.
Thus, the Secretary of the Armenian Security Council Armen Grigoryan recalled the treaty of friendship, cooperation and mutual assistance, which was concluded in 1997 by the then presidents of Russia and Armenia by Boris Yeltsin and Levon Ter-Petrosyan. According to him, the country's authorities are currently preparing an appeal to Moscow based on this document.
In mid-November, the situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border again aggravated. Thus, on November 14, the Armenian Ministry of Defense announced an intense firefight between the military of the two countries, which was caused by an attempt by the Azerbaijanis to launch an offensive in the eastern direction of the border.
On November 16, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defense reported that the Armenian military had attacked Azerbaijani posts in Kelbajar and Lachin regions of the republic. It was noted that as a result, two Azerbaijani soldiers were injured. In turn, the Armenian Defense Ministry stated that the Armenian military came under fire from the Azerbaijanis in the eastern direction of the border.
