RBC: Visa from 2022 will cancel the commission for transfers from card to card by phone number
Payment system Visa, following Mastercard, made a decision zero the commission for transferring funds from card to card by phone number. The changes will take effect from April 1, 2022. This is reported by “Kommersant”.
According to the newspaper, in early November, the company sent a letter to banks, informing that from April 1, 2022, the commissions will be zeroed. According to experts, the decision was caused by the active growth of transfers through the fast payment system (FPS) from the Russian Central Bank. Today banks pay three rubles to the interbank commission (interchanging commission), a commission to the payment system of ten cents and 0.05 percent for transfers within the country. They themselves, as a rule, charge clients at least one percent of the transfer amount.
Visa noted that the expansion of the use of the service of transfers from card to card is one of the important areas of business in Russia, so the company intends to adjust the tariff policy to market realities. At the same time, it is noted that banks also set commissions for customers, which payment systems cannot regulate. Therefore, credit institutions can keep the same tariffs even after the commission has been canceled by Visa.
According to market participants, Visa's move is an attempt to compete in the SBP transfer market, whose share is growing noticeably. In the third quarter, citizens transferred almost 1.4 trillion rubles through the BSP, the quarterly growth is 30-40 percent, and in the fourth quarter this figure may come close to two trillion rubles.
In turn, as experts explain , the active development of transfers from card to card in Russia was associated with the transition to this area of settlements between individuals, and mainly between individuals and legal entities and individual entrepreneurs, which were previously carried out in cash.
Earlier it was reported that From February 1, Visa introduces incentives for large online stores – it will reduce tariffs for accepting cards for payment to 1.2-1.5 percent of the cost of goods, depending on the volume of online sales. The new program will be extended to Ozon, Wildberries and other Russian marketplaces.
