On July 16, a student driving a Mazda car hit three children crossing the road with two adults at an unregulated pedestrian crossing. As a result of the road accident, two children died.
Bashkirova pleaded guilty and said that she hit pedestrians crossing the road on a zebra crossing, as she was simultaneously driving and “sitting on the phone”. The girl was charged under Part 5 of Article 264 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Violation of the traffic rules by a person driving a car, resulting in the death of two persons by negligence”). The maximum punishment under this article is imprisonment for up to 7 years.
