Senator Tsekov said that the entry of Donbass into Russia will depend on the will of the people
the composition of the Russian Federation depends solely on the will of the people, said Sergei Tsekov, Senator of the Federation Council, in a conversation with Lenta.ru. Russia, according to him, keeps a long pause, helping humanitarian, but not provoking the situation, giving citizens the opportunity to independently resolve their internal issues in the right, in their opinion, key.
Tsekov believes that Russia is in world politics long ago she chose for herself the role of a state that helps. And it's not just about Donbass: similar assistance, according to him, was provided all the years of Ukraine's independence, in the same way the country is currently helping Syria.
“Even the former President of Ukraine Leonid Kuchma said that in the early years gas was supplied to Ukraine at the price of tea. And the same was with all fuel, including for nuclear power plants, – the senator recalled. – Such a share of our country – we help a lot, hoping for a reciprocal kind attitude. Unfortunately, this is not always the case. Now, for example, Russia is helping Syria a lot and actively, it does not ask for money. We help simply because disadvantaged peoples need to be protected. ”
Will of the people
The politician believes that Russia helps Donbass for exactly the same reason – because in 2014 the destruction of the region's inhabitants began, and the country could not close its eyes to this.
“We provide humanitarian assistance, helped with documentary support, solution of status issues, recognized their documents, citizenship, documents for vehicles. They even began to provide Russian citizenship in a simplified manner, as a result of which about 600 thousand of our compatriots now live in the territory. That is, we are doing everything to help the region. But its further status will be determined not by the desire of Russia, but solely by the desire of the people of Donbass themselves, “Tsekov stressed.
According to him, many in the West would like Russia to take more stringent measures and decisions in this direction. But the country keeps a long pause, not provoking the situation, hoping that it will mature itself and will allow the issue to be resolved fairly, at the will of the citizens.
“You have to understand that this is a long way. The problem has no quick fix here. But if Ukraine begins to show aggression, starts hostilities, everything is possible. Crimea, for example, dreamed of reunification with Russia for many decades – and I can speak about this as a former Ukrainian deputy. We dreamed about it. And it happened. But for Donbass, of course, happiness and peace would be quicker, “the politician concluded.
On September 29, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) Valeriy Zaluzhny lifted all restrictions on return fire for the Ukrainian military in the conflict zone with a special directive in Donbass.
