Russia realized the value of manure and dung

Kommersant: in Russia, the demand for manure and poultry droppings has sharply increased among farmers enterprises. Against the background of a record rise in prices for mineral fertilizers, agricultural companies realized the value of manure and poultry droppings and began to buy goods that could previously only be collected for a nominal fee, Kommersant writes.

The interlocutor of the publication noted that since January the demand for chicken manure has doubled. Another source in a large agricultural holding said that if a year ago all organic fertilizers were used in their own fields, now half of them are sold.

The general director of the Bunyatino agricultural company, Sergei Shchukin, explained the trend by the fact that 30-40 tons of organic fertilizers, which are needed for one hectare, will cost 30-65 thousand rubles, depending on the type and region of supply, which is already more profitable for the company. As noted in the material, for the year by September 2021, nitrate rose on average by 71 percent, urea – by 91 percent, ammophos – by 70 percent. Against this background, the regions informed the Ministry of Agriculture that they are ready to purchase only 4.2 million tons of mineral fertilizers in 2022, which is one million tons less than in the current one.

AFG National indicates that the practice of active use manure and droppings are threatened by an overdose of active ingredients and, as a result, soil contamination. The representative of the enterprise noted that there are technologies in the world for the production of a high-quality product from organic fertilizers, but in Russia this business is practically undeveloped.

Separately, market participants complain about the regulation of animal and bird waste. To transport them from the place of production to the place of use, a permit for substances of the third hazard class is required, and the handling of such waste is regulated by a dozen regulations.

Earlier it was reported that one of the world's largest energy companies Chevron will accelerate the development of recycling manure into renewable natural gas as part of a program to reduce harmful emissions.
