New delta strain of coronavirus identified in Norway

Media: the delta strain identified in Norway is no more dangerous than other COVID variants

A new subtype of the delta COVID strain identified in Norway, codenamed AY.63, is no more dangerous than other mutations of the delta variant of the coronavirus. This is reported by TASS with reference to the Norwegian Institute of Health.

“We have no evidence that the vaccine did not work well against this subtype. There is no reason to worry too much about him, ”said the representative of the institute, Caroline Bragstad. This variant of the coronavirus was discovered back in the summer of 2021, but only now received its international name.

In September, it became known that most coronavirus restrictions were lifted in Norway. Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg said the restrictions had been lifted, as 90 percent of Norwegian citizens over 18 received the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine.
