Russian and French Presidents Putin and Macron had a telephone conversation
Russian and French Presidents Vladimir Putin and Emmanuel Macron had a telephone conversation. This was reported by “Interfax”.
The agency noted that the parties discussed the crisis on the Polish-Belarusian border. The leaders decided to jointly seek de-escalation.
Putin and Macron also agreed that de-escalation is also necessary with regard to the recent threats from Minsk to block gas transit to Europe. The French President warned his Russian counterpart about his concern over the situation in Ukraine and said that he was ready to help Kiev in ensuring territorial integrity.
Earlier, on November 12, negotiations in the “2 + 2” format were held in Paris. They were attended by Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, the French side was represented by Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Yves Le Drian and Minister of the Armed Forces Florence Parley.
The head of the Russian Foreign Ministry said that Moscow had proposed France to discuss breaking the stalemate in relations with the European Union (EU). The minister also pointed out that during the negotiations in the “2 + 2” format, the parties did not avoid sharp corners. He added that Russia appreciates the attitude of French President Emmanuel Macron to build relationships.
