In the suburbs, they are preparing to build a new toll highway

“Kommersant”: driving a kilometer along a paid backup of the Yegoryevskoe highway will cost 12 rubles

one of the busiest roads in the region. Writes about this “Kommersant” with reference to the Moscow Region Ministry of Transport. Concession agreement between the regional authorities and LLC “M.E.T.K.” for the construction of the road will be concluded until December 2021.

In 2019, the project of the 36-kilometer route was estimated at 32.3 billion rubles. Due to the rise in prices for building materials, inflation and the need to relocate communications on the new section of the road and Russian Railways networks, the estimate has grown to 60 billion rubles. Traveling one kilometer along the Egoryevskoye Highway backup will cost 12 rubles for cars and from 18 to 48 rubles for trucks.

Yegoryevskoe highway starts from Lyubertsy and ends in Kasimov (Ryazan region). In the Moscow region, a highway with two lanes in each direction passes through many settlements with intersections and traffic lights. The authorities consider it inexpedient to reconstruct the existing road. In 2019, the backup project became part of the concept of the Moscow Region's transport development strategy.

The new highway will have two lanes in each direction, it will start from Lyubertsy, then go north of Yegoryevskoe highway, past the villages of Zyuzino, Strokino, Donino and join the Central Ring Road. Construction will be completed in 2026. An option is being discussed, in which by 2025 after the Central Ring Road there will be a road bypassing Gzhel – another backup for the Yegoryevskoye Highway.

Andrei Mukhortikov, a member of the public council at the Moscow Ministry of Transport, considers it a blessing to build an alternate, albeit a paid one, since there are practically no traffic-free and not congested roads in the east and southeast of the Moscow region. At the same time, he notes that the tariff of 12 rubles per kilometer for a light car is, “to put it mildly, not cheap, but it is better to have a paid alternative than to have none.” According to the expert, it is impossible to build a new road entirely using budget funds. “The Moscow region spends about 40 billion rubles a year on all road repairs, reconstruction and construction,” said Mukhortikov. The region is the leader in the number of toll roads.

The new highway affects important recreational areas of the Moscow region and in some places cuts off villages and horticultural associations from the nearest forests, said Alexei Yaroshenko, head of the forestry department of Greenpeace Russia. He predicts “conflict situations” during construction. Each new highway turns out to be a big and unexpected problem for residents and summer residents, since the Moscow region has been developing chaotically for many decades, without taking into account the prospects for the development of transport infrastructure.

At the end of October, Russian President Vladimir Putin promised allocate ten billion rubles for the construction of interchanges in the region. The President noted that not all traffic problems have been resolved in settlements outside Moscow.
