According to the newspaper, at least 68 people became victims of clashes in the Litoral prison in the city of Guayaquil, all of them were prisoners. The police found firearms, explosives and blades in the building. The authorities said they had returned control of the prison.

It is noted that the colony contains about 700 prisoners. Ecuadorian President Guillermo Lasso expressed condolences to the relatives of the victims and stressed that new measures must be taken to combat the mafia, which profits from the chaos.

This is not the first time of bloody battles in an Ecuadorian prison. On September 30, it was reported that more than a hundred people were killed during clashes between prisoners. Then President Lasso declared a state of emergency in the country's penitentiary system for 60 days to restore order and avoid new incidents.
