In Novocherkassk, the ancient catacombs accidentally found in the courtyard of the school were investigated
In Novocherkassk, the Rostov region, experts examined the asphalt found in the courtyard of the school underneath. Now they have to work with archival data. This is reported on the website of the city administration.
“From the historical research that we have, it is only known that a building was located on this site until the mid-60s of the last century, which was then lost. There is no other information yet. Therefore, we will now conduct an initial survey, and then we will delve into archival work, ”said Ivan Grunsky, chairman of the committee for the protection of cultural heritage sites in the region.
The study of underground areas was carried out using a GPR. Also, specialists from a quadrocopter removed buildings and the urban environment in order to then superimpose the resulting images on historical maps and determine which objects were there before.
A deep hole in the asphalt was noticed by a physical education teacher during a lesson. A month later, the road workers began to remove the asphalt and found rooms with vaults and doors, lined with red bricks. There are surnames, names and dates on the walls – 1927 and 1942.
