A woman received a million dollars won by her brother and refused to give it back

The American took possession of her brother's lottery win and refused to give away a million dollars prison. Information about the arrest of the woman was published on the website of the district attorney for Nassau County, New York.

According to the investigation, the man bought a lottery ticket worth five dollars from one of the stores in Glen Cove, New York, 28 October 2020. When the American erased the protective strip, it turned out that he became the owner of a jackpot in the amount of one million dollars (more than 71 million rubles).

To maintain anonymity, the winner asked his cousin, 32-year-old Iris Amador Argeta, to collect the prize for him, and promised her a reward of $ 50,000 (over 3.5 million rubles). The woman agreed, came to New York from Virginia and received a ticket from a relative.

A few weeks later, Argeta came to her brother and presented him with a forged document, which indicated that after all the deductions, the winnings amounted to only 20 thousand dollars (1.4 million rubles). At the same time, she gave her relative only $ 13,436 (just over 960 thousand rubles), referring to the fact that the rest of the money was withheld as tax.

Later, the man decided to check his sister's story and found a message on the lottery website that Iris Amador Argeta presented the ticket that won a million dollars and had already received $ 537,440 (more than 38 million rubles) in the form of a lump sum.

Having discovered the forgery, the man contacted a relative, but she stated that she had no money and threatened her brother with criminal prosecution. After that, the American went to the police.

Argeta surrendered to the police in the city of Glen Cove on November 8, 2021, and the next day was brought to trial, on charges of theft on an especially large scale and forgery. The guilty verdict under these articles assumes from five to 15 years in prison.

At the moment, the police have already managed to return more than $ 300,000 to the criminal's brother. The next court hearing is scheduled for November 23.

Earlier it was reported that in Italy a tobacco shop seller robbed a pensioner who won a large sum. A 70-year-old woman showed him the winning ticket she bought from him, after which the man grabbed him and fled.
