“I suggest that university rectors include this subject in the entrance examinations, and applicants should not be afraid to take it,” the minister said during a geographic dictation at the headquarters of the Russian Geographical Society in Moscow.

Shoigu recalled that the leadership of Moscow State University has already decided to introduce an entrance exam in geography for admission to 11 faculties. Previously, it was compulsory for only one.

Geographical dictation has been held in Russia since 2015. In total, more than one and a half thousand points from Kaliningrad to Kamchatka are involved in the event.

Earlier, the head of Rosobrnadzor Anzor Muzaev said that the unified state exam (USE) in 2022 will be held in a pre-pandemic format, if there are no spikes in the incidence of coronavirus and their consequences. According to him, it is necessary to analyze the situation with COVID-19 in the country, which will be observed in the fall. Muzaev stressed that in the last academic year, the department chose the format of the Unified State Examination based on the epidemiological situation.
