In the early 1990s, more than 50 million people lived in Ukraine. According to data as of September 1, 2021, the population of the republic is 41.3 million.
Earlier, a leading researcher at the Institute of Demography and Social Research named after Ptukha of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Lydia Tkachenko explained the reasons for the decline in the population of Ukraine.
