The director of “Election Day-2” spoke about the edits due to the photo of Putin

Director Barshak: the photo of Russian President Putin was removed from Election Day-2 to be shown in Ukraine

2 “Alexander Barshak said that his film became one of the few Russian films allowed for distribution in Ukraine after 2014. However, in order for the film to be allowed to be shown in Ukrainian cinemas, it was necessary to make corrections, mainly due to the photo of Russian President Vladimir Putin. The cinematographer spoke about this in an interview with Gazeta.Ru.

According to the director, Ukraine demanded that the film should not contain Russian symbols and a photo of Putin. As a result, the portrait of the Russian leader, who decorated the offices of Moscow officials in the film, was replaced with a photo of the Ukrainian poet Taras Shevchenko, and the Russian tricolor was replaced with the flag of Lithuania. “We turned the knobs for color correction and repainted the flag in red, green and yellow,” Barshak explained.

The director also added that the Ukrainian distributor demanded to remove the Lenin monuments, which is why the computer graphics masters had to change a revolutionary on Shevchenko, who showed the direction with “Lenin's hand”.

Earlier, director Sarik Andreasyan called for a ban on Ukrainian films and music in Russia. He expressed the opinion that the ban on Ukrainian-made content would be an adequate response to the fact that the State Cinema of Ukraine did not issue a rental certificate for showing the comedy “Rzhevsky against Napoleon”.
