British fighters came close to Russian Tu-160 missile carriers

Russian Defense Ministry: Tu-160 aircraft over neutral waters were escorted by British fighters

Russian Tu-160 long-range aviation missile carriers flew over neutral waters Barents, Norwegian and North Seas, in a separate area they were almost closely approached and accompanied by British fighters. This was reported on the website of the Russian Ministry of Defense.

It is noted that the Eurofighter Typhoon of the British Air Force took off. The footage taken from the cockpit of the Russian bomber shows that British aircraft are following a parallel course and at some point reduce the distance to several tens of meters.

The fighter escort of the Russian Tu-160 was provided by the crews of the MiG-31 combining the air force and missile defense of the Northern Fleet. The interceptor fighters flew with suspended R-33 air-to-air missiles.

“All flights of the Russian Aerospace Forces are carried out in strict accordance with international rules for the use of airspace,” the Defense Ministry stressed.

The flight duration was about 15 hours, refueling was carried out in the air. The crews regularly fly over the neutral waters of the Arctic, the Atlantic and Pacific Ocean, the Black and Baltic Seas.

Earlier, the Russian Ministry of Defense recorded an increase in NATO military activity, in particular the United States, in the Black Sea region. The ministry notes that during the day, Russian anti-aircraft missile forces escorted four aircraft of the North Atlantic Alliance over the Black Sea. Among them were two U-2S and RC-135 reconnaissance aircraft, as well as a pair of P-8A Poseidon patrol aircraft.
