Virologist Altstein: if WHO approves Sputnik V by the end of 2021, then the EU will do so
Researcher, Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology named after Gamaleya Anatoly Altstein, in an interview with Izvestia, predicted the timing of the approval of the Russian vaccine against the Sputnik V coronavirus by the European Union (EU).
According to the virologist, if the World Health Organization (WHO) approves the Russian the drug, then the European regulator – EMA can do it. He admitted that the current delays in the approval of the Russian vaccine may be related to the difference in production standards.
Altstein noted that the WHO is looking at how vaccine production is in line with “good manufacturing practice” (GMP, Good Manufacturing Practice ), to what extent these requirements are met in the production of the Russian drug. According to him, most Western organizations have no complaints about the quality of Sputnik V
Earlier, Izvestia, citing a statement from the European Commission (EC), reported that Russia would soon submit an official European COVID passports. The department clarified that Moscow has already submitted the necessary documents to verify the technical compatibility of vaccination control systems in the European Union and Russia.
