About two thousand migrants gathered at the Polish-Belarusian border , among which many children and pregnant women were noticed. This was announced by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), RIA Novosti reports.

The organization drew attention to the large number of children among refugees in the context of the need to provide assistance. The UN stressed that the main priority remains to prevent loss of life and move them to safety. It is noted that the temporary residence camps for migrants are not considered safe, since they lack stable access to food, water and medical care.
Earlier it became known that several illegal migrants from the Middle East with children tried to break into Poland across the border with Belarus. According to the Polish police, the actions of the refugees were stopped, they were returned to Belarusian territory.
Groups of migrants from the Middle East have been trying to break through from Belarus to Poland and Lithuania for the third day. According to the Polish authorities, the number of refugees reached three to four thousand people. In Warsaw, it is reported that the camp of illegal immigrants is guarded by Belarusian security forces. The EU and the US believe that the crisis was organized by the Belarusian government to destabilize the situation in neighboring countries, and threaten to impose sanctions against Minsk.
