The first garbage supermarket was opened in Russia

Eco-activists from Irkutsk have opened a store selling garbage collected on the shores of Lake Baikal It sells waste collected on the shores of Lake Baikal: beer cans, candy wrappers, old batteries and other items, Rossiyskaya Gazeta writes.

As explained by the head of the external communications department of the organization “My Baikal” Polina Kaiser, in reality, they will not deliver garbage to customers – who needs beer bottles, packs of cigarettes, cans, used baby diapers. All this garbage is collected, sorted, partially recycled or disposed of. “The purchase is a voluntary donation to our organization,” said the eco-activist. The proceeds will be spent on environmental campaigns.

During the first day of operation, the supermarket gained about 15 thousand rubles. At the same time, the prices for waste in it are immodest, the newspaper notes: a can of beer will cost 900 rubles, a diaper – 500, someone's toothbrush – almost 400 rubles. In fact, price tags depend on the harm caused to nature by this or that item. The most dangerous for the environment are batteries, so they cost 10 thousand in the store (for a pair of ordinary finger-type ones).

Earlier it became known that, on average, every Russian in 2020 threw out 453.4 kilograms of garbage, which is 2 , 4 percent less than in 2019 – 464.7 kilograms per person. Experts linked the reduction in waste to coronavirus restrictions.
