WP: ISIS terrorist attack on a village in Iraq sparked a conflict between neighbors

Islamic State militants terrorist organization in Russia) attacked the Shiite village of Rashad in Iraq and killed its inhabitants. This is reported by The Washington Post (WP).

According to the newspaper, the terrorists opened fire on a group of young people, and then went to their homes in the village. More than ten people were killed in the attack, and some houses were burned down. Residents had to hide from terrorists in the forest.

WP notes that the attack sparked a conflict between neighbors – Sunnis and Shiites – on religious grounds. This effect proves that the threat of incitement of sectarian violence persists in Iraq. The local population has no security guarantees, and all agreements between the militants and the local authorities are based on informal agreements.

Earlier it became known that the international coalition led by the United States handed over the Peshmerga to the armed forces of Iraqi Kurdistan over 20 armored HMMWV off-road vehicles to fight ISIS terrorists. The Pentagon noted that the received SUVs increase the mobility and combat effectiveness of the Peshmerga and expand the possibilities for confronting IS militants.
