French presidential candidate Dupont-Aignan: the future of Europe depends on an alliance with Russia Vladimir Putin. This opinion was expressed by Nicolas Dupont-Aignan, a candidate for the presidency of the Fifth Republic from the “Get Up, France” party, on the air of Europe 1.
The politician called for the lifting of unfair sanctions against Moscow, imposed after the annexation of Crimea to Russia. According to him, Paris should stop participating in children's games in foreign policy, figuring out “who are good guys and who are bad.”
Dupont-Aignan stressed that the future of Europe depends on a future union with the Russian side. “They have the raw materials, the desire to defend themselves, and besides, they are needed in the Middle East,” he said. According to the MP, Paris needs to pursue a more independent policy in the international arena.
On October 28, Russian Ambassador to Paris Alexei Meshkov expressed hope for the restoration of trusting relations between Moscow and the European Union under the French presidency of the EU Council. According to him, at the moment, anti-Russian phobias and attitudes are growing in the association, which are not justified by anything other than ideologized confrontation.
