The Russian Foreign Ministry declared the illegitimacy of the EU sanctions against Belarus

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Zakharova: we do not consider migration problems a reason for sanctions

Any sanctions of the European Union (EU) against Belarus are illegitimate. This was stated at a briefing by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova, the correspondent of “Lenta.ru” reports.

“Why during all this time it was impossible to find one day and several people to hold consultations with Minsk? They are trying to punish Minsk, but not to settle the acute migration crisis, ”the diplomat was indignant. According to her, the withdrawal of NATO troops from Afghanistan and the preceding 20-year war led to this situation.

Zakharova also added that the blame for the migration crisis should not be shifted to Belarus. As stated by the representative of the Foreign Ministry, Russia will provide Belarus with all-round support. In addition, she noted that migration problems are not a reason for sanctions.

Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov accused Poland and Lithuania of unwillingness to solve migration problems, amid another influx of refugees to Europe. He also noted that Vilnius and Warsaw did not turn to Moscow for help in resolving migration issues with Minsk.
