The embassy reacted to reports of the detention of a Russian in Poland

Russian embassy: the Polish authorities have not yet notified about the detention of a Russian citizen in aiding illegal migration from Belarus. This is how the Russian embassy reacted to the request of “Lenta.ru” to comment on the statement of the Polish border guards.

The Russian diplomatic mission noted that according to the consular convention concluded between the countries in 1992, the Polish side has three days to notify the embassy on the detention of a Russian. The embassy itself has not yet turned to the Polish authorities for explanations.

Reports that the Polish authorities detained a Russian for helping migrants trying to cross the border with Belarus appeared on November 10. Together with him, a citizen of Sweden and a citizen of Lithuania were also detained.

Earlier on November 10, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova responded to accusations from Western countries of Russia's involvement in the migration crisis. She denied any Russian involvement in this situation, and also compared migrants from the Middle East to Belarusian opposition figures who fled the country after the brutal suppression of the 2020 protests.
