Tbilisi City Court overturned the arrest of Mikhail Saakashvili in one of the criminal cases one of the criminal cases in which he is being held by the accused. At the same time, the politician will remain in custody, reports “Sputnik Georgia”.
On November 10, the court annulled the arrest in the case of dispersing the rally in 2007. The judge explained that such a measure of restraint is not necessary, since Saakashvili is already in custody on the basis of a verdict in other cases.
The lawyer said that the arrest limited the ex-president's right to make phone calls. Now he will be able to speak on the phone for 15 minutes three times a month.
At the same time, the court in absentia upheld the arrest of two other defendants – ex-prosecutor Zurab Adeishvili and ex-defense minister David Kezerashvili, who are on the wanted list.
The meeting was held without Saakashvili: the prison administration refused to bring him to court, announcing possible provocations. The lawyers left the courtroom in protest when the judge did not admit two defenders to the trial. The next meeting will take place on November 29.
Saakashvili was detained in Georgia on October 1 after he returned after eight years of emigration. Earlier, he was sentenced in absentia to six years in prison for the murder of a banker and beating of a deputy. Saakashvili went on hunger strike in prison.
