“Interfax”: the special services have information about Safronov's contacts with the Japanese military intelligence
Advisor to the head of Roscosmos and journalist Ivan Safronov accused of high treason, suspected of six years of cooperation with the military intelligence of Japan. This is reported by Interfax with reference to an informed source.
According to him, the Russian special services have information about Safronov's contacts with representatives of the Japanese military attaché in Moscow from 2012 to 2018. During this period, he repeatedly met with Japanese diplomats, who, according to the Russian special services, are representatives of military intelligence.
The source names Safronov's counterparts: naval attaché Nitta Hiroshi, military attaché for land defense Ishida Hiroki and other employees of the diplomatic mission Shingo Hamasaki, Ono Kazuya, Takase Atsushi. They were interested in the contracts of the Ministry of Defense of Russia, the position of the department on key issues of military cooperation, weapons and supplies of military equipment.
Safronov is charged with cooperation with Czech intelligence, as well as the transfer of information on the activities of the Russian Armed Forces to political scientist Demuri Voronin in December 2015 in Syria, which he forwarded to representatives of the University of Zurich Switzerland and the German Federal Intelligence Service. The FSB believes that Voronin paid Safronov $ 248 for this data.
The journalist does not admit guilt and believes that the criminal case is related to his professional activities.
