Immunologist Zhemchugov: the incidence of COVID-19 in Russia will decrease in two to three weeks
immunologist, Doctor of Medical Sciences Vladislav Zhemchugov revealed the timing of Russia's entry into a plateau in terms of the incidence of coronavirus. Indicators will decrease within a week, TASS reports.
Zhemchugov said that during the week the peak incidence of COVID-19 should turn into a plateau. In regions where restrictive measures have been introduced, Russians will become sick less, after which collective immunity to the “delta” strain of coronavirus will form and the situation in the country will improve.
“And in two or three weeks we will see the light of day at the end tunnel, a decrease in morbidity will begin. And further predictions can only be made on the basis of an understanding of what percentage of our population already has immunity to the delta strain, ”the doctor promised.
The current epidemiological situation in the country is due to the fact that now the coronavirus those Russians are sick who have already suffered the disease and have become vulnerable to the “delta” strain, which differs significantly from the first variant of infection.
“As a result, the effect of vaccines has decreased by 30-40%, but they still work. Taking this into account, as well as slipping due to the fact that those vaccinated and those who have been ill for a long time can now get sick again in a mild form, we have such an epidemiological situation, “concluded Zhemchugov.
The doctor admitted that SARS- CoV-2 will disappear as the causative agents of SARS and Middle East respiratory syndrome. For this, most people need to be vaccinated. In addition, it is equally important to stop the emergence of new mutations of the virus.
In the center of Gamalea, they advocated compulsory vaccination against coronavirus. Scientists believe the pandemic will end when 70-75 percent of the population is vaccinated against COVID-19.
