Meat prices in Russia decided to restrain in a new way

Ministry of Economic Development: the quota for duty-free import of pork will be in effect from January 1

to Russia of frozen beef and pork, according to the website of the Ministry of Economic Development.

The quota for duty-free import of pork will be valid from January 1 to June 30, 2022, beef – throughout 2022. Thus, the authorities decided to restrain meat prices in a new way.

Earlier, the Ministry of Agriculture appealed to the Russian government apparatus with a proposal to abolish the duty on the import of frozen beef and pork into the country. For the import of foreign products, companies pay a fee of 15 and 25 percent, respectively. The document proposed to establish a quota of 200 thousand tons for each type of meat.

According to the department, the zeroing of duties will stabilize prices for meat on the domestic market. Since October, importers of beef when entering Russia have lost the opportunity to receive a discount on the duty, since the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) changed the tariff preference schedule. Experts warned that without discounts, products will rise in price for Russia, because costs will increase the price tag for imports from far-abroad countries by almost four percent.

Earlier, producers of sausages and sausages warned of a 7-20 percent increase in prices since the end of October – early November. This is due to an increase in production costs.
