Apple to make iPhone repairs easier

Apple to allow iPhone screen repairs without disabling Face ID Representatives of the company are quoted by The Verge.

The company reacted to the news that replacing the iPhone 13 display is an extremely difficult procedure and almost impossible in artisanal conditions. Also, in this case, the consumer may lose the Face ID biometric sensor – this is due to the need to transfer the microcontroller. Apple said it will simplify the repair of new smartphones in the future.

The company said in a statement that third-party iPhone repairs will not have to transfer the microcontroller from the old display to the new one. In such circumstances, Face ID will not be disabled. Such an opportunity will appear after the release of one of the future updates of iOS 15.

The journalists of the Gzimodo publication noted that the employees of the repair shops welcomed the decision of Apple. For example, Fruit Fixed director Justin Drake Carroll said that repairing iPhone screens accounts for 35 percent of the workshop's income. “A few years ago, these services accounted for 60 percent of our earnings,” said the entrepreneur.

The iPhone 13's screen proved impossible to repair, previously reported by enthusiasts from iFixit. According to them, in this way Apple is effectively destroying the business of unofficial smartphone repair shops.
