A foreign tourist spent an average of 15.8 thousand rubles on one trip to Russia in 2020
Expenses of foreign tourists in Russia for 2020 decreased by 74 percent and amounted to $ 2.9 billion (205.8 trillion rubles). Interfax writes about this with reference to the data of the Central Bank.
It is noted that the data refer to the item of the balance of payments “Travel”, which includes the total expenses of foreign citizens temporarily staying in Russia. In 2020, the average spending by non-residents per trip amounted to $ 223 (15.8 thousand rubles), which is 28.1 percent less than in 2019. The number of visits to the country also decreased – 12.8 million, which is 63 percent less than the indicator of the same pre-pandemic year.
In the total export of services under the item “Travel”, CIS countries (not members of the EAEU) are in the lead – 32 , 8 percent, EAEU members – 29.7 percent, EU states – 16.3 percent.
According to tour operators, the leading countries in terms of the number of foreign tourists arriving in Russia were China (9.6 percent of the total number of travelers), Germany – 6.7 percent and France – 5.5 percent. 5.1 percent of tourists arrived from Kyrgyzstan, from Belarus – 3.9 percent, Kazakhstan – 3.6 percent, Ukraine – 3.3 percent, Great Britain – 3.2 percent, Italy and the United States – 2.8 percent each. p>
It was noted that the main goals of foreign travelers' arrival were the cultural and educational program – 50.6 percent, beach tourism – 29 percent, and health and wellness rest – 19 percent. Most often, tourists visited Moscow, St. Petersburg, Krasnodar Territory, Irkutsk Region and the Altai Republic.
Earlier in October, the Ministry of Construction and Housing and Utilities developed a draft state program “Tourism Development”, which calculated the costs of travelers in Russia. Thus, the spending of a foreign tourist was less than $ 900 per person, which is lower than the average worldwide.
